Puerto Rican born Lornalitz Baez was blessed with stunning beauty and a will of determination! Lornalitz was raised in New York City, attended Barbizon modeling school and has been modeling since the age of 12. It was at the age of 17 years old when she began her professional modeling career when Jennifer Lopez had a model search for her clothing line “J.Lo”. Lornalitz entered and was selected in the top 3 out of over 1300 contestants.
It was shortly after that Lornalitz was featured in Salon Sense, EGO Revista, VIBE Magazine, Source Magazine, Urban Latino, as well as other publications. She began traveling the world working for several companies such as Avlon Hair, Seagrams Gin, Enyce campaign shown in Macy’s, commercials with Sprite and MTV networks. Other works included the TV series “Law & Order”, fashion shows with Kimora Lee, Anna Sui, Roccawear, Playboy Swim, just to name a few. Her dedication of putting in the hard work and meeting people paid off for her, but not without a price!
During this time while working these fabulous jobs Lornalitz was signed to an agency where she had to be very thin, too thin! In order to keep work coming and meet the demands of the modeling industry, Lornalitz did whatever it took. She began binging, taking diet pills and eventually became bulimic! All her dreams of traveling where she had the chance to experience such places like Hawaii, Spain, Portugal and others was quite wonderful, but it left her feeling very unhappy. Lornalitz clearly remembers attending a casting for Mercedes Benz Fashion Week at which time she was a size 2, standing 5’10 inches tall. She was getting fitted and was told, “You’re going to have to lose some weight, you’re too fat around your hips!” Lornalitz was crushed by such words and it was during that time that she had had enough!
Through the support of her family, recieving therapy and her faith in God she was on the road to being healthy and happy. She gained her weight back being a healthy size 12/14 and was ready to accept her size as being just fine. Of course she was dropped from her modeling agency, but Lornalitz didn’t let that stop her. She started from scratch all over again and pursued modeling gigs for plus size women.
In 2011 Lornalitz competed in a modeling competition called Model Latina on a Spanish network called NuVo and she made it to the top 7. Good news later arrived for Lornalitz when the network of NuVo contacted her and asked her would she like to be on a new reality show called “Curvy Girls!” Lornalitz was ecstatic and gladly accepted.
The show reality show “Curvy Girl” is of four Latina beautiful plus size professional models who are determined to reach success! The women are faced with dealing with hidden insecurities, unstable relationships as they deal with everyday life in a competitive world of modeling.
The show is premiered in September and has been picked up for another season. “I am an advocate against eating disorders! I want to be a voice for women that it’s ok to be plus size. I want to mentor young girls and let them know that binging and taking diet pills is not the way to go. I had the opportunity to speak at an event and share my story and young girls came up to me privately to share their experience. Girls in the industry don’t want to talk about being bulimic and it is top secret, but I am the voice for women who are bulimic and being a ‘CURVY GIRL’ is acceptable!”
Lornalitz is currently working as a plus size model and is a cast of “Curvy Girls” realty show on NuVo TV. Since then she’s been working continuously by having booked several modeling gigs that includes the 2013 Spring campaign for K-Mart, a national commercial for Tristar Leggings. She will also be featured in the 2013 January issue of Skorch magazine, as well as being a spokes model for young girls. Life for Lornalitz has certainly gotten better for her as she continues to focus on her career and other pursuits. We are looking forward to Lornalitz’s continued success!
