This morning at 7a.m. Atlanta’s number one radio station personality Frank Ski announced his departure of his career of 14 years from V-103. Along with his announcement, at 8a.m. Co-Host Wanda Smith announced her departure as well.
I can remember when I first moved to Atlanta 4 years ago from New York, I browsed the radio station trying to discover the popular radio stations of the City of Atlanta. I happened to discover a station that was different, different from any station that I had ever experienced. I heard the Inspirational Vitamin. It is a segment that Frank Ski shares with listeners to give them positive inspiration, motivation, encouragement, and faith with words from God. I had never experienced any radio station that wasn’t a religious station that included such positive words for its listeners not to mention the fact that this it’s a R& B/Hip-Hop radio station. I was amazed by this and made V-103 my station.
So, to hear that someone who has such a strong influence in the Atlanta community with many affluent connections to the well known in Atlanta and elsewhere was leaving the station it was quite disturbing. Frank Ski is a legend for the City of Atlanta and has done much for the community. Frank Ski started his own foundation for youth called the Frank Ski Foundation, he opened his own restaurant, “Frank Ski’s,” he has hosted many community events and fundraisers and has impacted the lives of others.
The wonderful Steve Harvey who is not only a comedian, author, talk show host, game show host and has his own radio show in Atlanta as well, called to give his blessings. Other radio personalities like Rickey Smiley and Micheal Baisden reached out giving their support and blessings to Frank and Wanda’s new chapter.
Their last day on the air will be December 20th where they will be having the wish list for listeners and doing what they love most! Frank Ski has stated that his decision was based on his passion and being able to reach more people. “I am not leaving Atlanta”, he says. He just knows that he has to continue doing the work that he was called to do.
Although it may be disappointing for some, myself included I know that this is not an ending but a new beginning for them both. It is amazing that people you have never met can have such an impact on your life and make a difference!
Everyday we should strive to reach our fullest potential by setting no limits and not become comfortable in the positions we are in. We should want to do better and be better so that we can see the true purpose of our existence. I am sad to see Frank and Wanda leave the station, but I am also looking forward to what more they have to offer in the future. We wish them the best!
